Do you charge reading or submission fees?
No. Any agent that charges a fee to review or represent your work (aside
from the industry standard commission) is not the one for you!
How long have you been in business?
Red Writing Hood Ink is a newly formed business after the Williams Agency
closed its doors in 2004. The owner of RWHI, Sheri Ables, is a former
agent of the Williams Agency. In addition, she worked for an agency in
Oregon from 1996-1997. Collectively the staff of RWHI has over 25 years
experience and boasts numerous sales to reputable publishing houses.
Why did the Williams Agency close?
After a battle with personal issues and not being able to devote time that
her clients deserved, Sheri Ables felt it was better to close the doors
until she could give her complete attention.
What titles were sold under the Williams
Agency name?
The most recent sales before closing was The Thunder of Angels (Willams
& Greenhaw; Chicago Review Press/Lawrence Hill imprint) and War
Elephants (Kistler; Greenwood Publishing Group/Praeger imprint).
Since RWHI is new, have there been sales
made?
We are still in the start up stages. However, we are selective. Currently,
we work with authors who have a strong platform from which to draw in
marketing and promoting their work. We will not represent more than a few
clients until we are reestablished in the marketplace.
What are your commission rates? Contract
terms?
Our commission is the industry standard of 15% on domestic sales and 20%
foreign and subsidiary. Our contract length is for a minimum of 1 year,
renewable upon agreement of both parties.
